Sawpit Free Campground

RATED 4.4/5 – Check Google Reviews

First on our list of Dog Friendly Free Camping Victoria sites is this campsite which is situated in Mount Clay State Forest not too far from Portland. This free campground provides plenty of opportunities for recreation activities including obviously camping.

It is a great spot to have picnics with the family and enjoy outdoor recreation activities such as hiking and mountain biking (there are tracks available).

Not too far is the Surry River which is on the western slope and is a very popular spot to go fishing. The common fish caught here is bream.

The site is as the name suggest a historic sawmill. Because of this there big camping spaces which are nestled within the native forest. It is a very accessible campsite and 2WD vehicles with caravans and campers will easily be mobile in the area. It is a perfect spot for larger groups.

There is a lovely picnic area which has a track which loops through the forest to a place called Whalers Lookout. This location has some epic views which span across the ocean as well as some sprawling farmland. A great free camping Victoria location.

Pettmans Beach – Free Camping Victoria

RATED 4.9/5 – Check Google Reviews

Next on our Dog Friendly Free Camping Victoria list is Pettmans Beach.

This campground which has approximately 10 sites for your use is located within Lake Tyers State Park. This park consists of tall eucalyptus trees and follows the northern shores of the Lake Tyers stretch to Mount Nowa. There is a thin sand spit which divides the ocean from the lake.

This campground is one of four different free camping spots within the Lake Tyers Park region. It is an amazing spot with direct beach access and the only one of the four to have toiler access. It is a great spot to relax and enjoy the ocean views. It’s hard to believe that this is a free camping victoria location!

Beauchamp Falls Reserve

RATED 4.8/5 – Check Google Reviews

Next on the list of Dog Friendly Free Camping Victoria is Beauchamp Falls campground.

The campground is just 40 minutes from the stunning Beauchamp Falls. It makes for a great day out with a base camp to return to at the end of the hike. The falls are located within The Great Otway National Park. A forest which is littered with thick ferns, blackwood and myrtle beech trees.

There are approximately 15 sites at this location. It is recommended to come in early in on the day to nab a good spot. There are nice shaded ones but obvious be wary of camping underneath these depending on the weather conditions.

To get to the campground you get to travel through the world-renowned Great Ocean Road or you can use the route which goes through Beech Forest. The second entrance is recommended if you are not travelling in a four-wheel drive. It is a lot more suitable for 2wd vehicles.

Note that there are many waterfalls though this forest, so it makes for several days of hiking and exploring action. This is the perfect spot for someone who loves waterfalls. Another bonus is that Apollo Bay is just 40 mins away and is a great spot for a dip.

This is one of those free campsites that is one of a kind. Hard to believe there are no fees attached to this amazing location.

Also note that there are many others waterfalls in the area, so if you’re into chasing waterfalls, you’ve hit the motherload. And if you fancy a dip in the beach, Apollo Bay is about 40 mins away. Beauchamp Falls Camping was a great camping experience and it’s definitely on my list of best free campsites in Melbourne.

Reeves Beach Free Campsite

RATED 4.3/5 – Check Google Reviews

Reeves Beach camp site is located on the 90 mile beach in the East Gippsland region. One of the big ups of this camp site is how close it is located to the beach. Another amazing location in such close proximity to the beach and of course yes this campsite is free once again.

The campsite itself is suitabe for all sized caravans and of course camper trailers and tents. When doing research on this site it seems it is a very popular spot around the holiday periods and long weekends. So best to get there early to grab a spot around these times.

There is no power on the site being a free campsite but is equipped with one drop toilet. The campsite is just a stroll over the dunes to the main beach which you can enjoy the typical beach action and is suitable for families as well.

The avid fisherman will also enjoy the chance to do some fishing in this location and with luck grab quite a haul.

Blue Pool Campground

RATED 4.3/5 – Check Google Reviews

Next on the list of free camping Victoria sites is the very popular Blue Pool campsite. It is the number one spot to go camping for free in the Briarlong State Forest area.

As you can imagine with such a majestic swimming hole it makes for great swimming, can be super cold in the winter months though. The water hole sits at the bottom of a basalt gorge.

This camping location is also a great spot for the avid hiker as there are many short and longer walks which are accessible from the campsite. For the ultra enthusiasts, this includes Track 96 which is a whopping 60 km’s. Plan to do this one over a multiple-day stint.

The gated campground is not necessarily friendly to caravans and would suit camper trailers and tents. It seems as there is only about 1 caravan site and based on the information that it is a busy site that this would get snapped up rather fast.

In saying that the campsite itself is suitable for all sized caravans and of course camper trailers and tents. Bear in mind again that this is a hot spot during holiday periods so you must get in early or you will most likely miss out.

Woods Point Picnic and Camping Ground

RATED 4.7/5 – Check Google Reviews

Victoria’s free camping ground’s keep delivering with this camp site on the banks of the great Snowy River. It is one of the rare locations where camping is permitted along the Snowy River, which makes it a must-stop on your camping adventures around Victoria.

The campground itself is located right on the banks of the water’s edge of the river. You are also nestled among the native forest and there is a lovely picnic area located in the state forest.

You will be happy to know that your furry family members are welcome here, so feel free to bring along your dogs for the camping trip. There are even horse yards available for all those horse people out there making it a truly unique spot to stay, especially if you’d like to bring your horse along.

There are some great amenities here which include picnic tables, barbecues and toilets. A massive reminder along with all other sites to take your rubbish with you when you leave these campsites.

To get to this location can be tricky if it has been raining a lot and it is not recommended to take the trip to this site in these conditions if you are in a regular 2WD vehicle or regular trailer. So be warned. It is a bit of a tricky site to get to but just punch it in your GPS and you will get there. Location below.
